THE PROBLEM
What is a VOC?
VOCs can occur naturally in the environment such as methane. Regulated chemical compounds such as benzene and toluene found in crude oil, refined fuels, and petroleum products like paints, glues and detergents are hazardous and harmful to humans.
Federal and state agencies have developed regulatory compliance levels for VOCs under the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and in the Safe Drinking Water Act. NPDES permits were developed to require specific EPA testing methods and compliance performances standards.
